  • ‘The Battle of Leipzig’

"The Battle of Leipzig" or "The Battle of the Nations" 18th October 1813. Oil on canvas, 32" x 46".

Chris is proud to share this latest commission, developed for a trusted client with a deep interest in the period.

The Battle of Leipzig was the largest cavalry engagement in world history to date, fought between numerous armies and nations at the culmination of the German Campaign of 1813 following Napoleon's failed invasion of Russia the previous year.

  • ‘Silent Knight’

"Silent Knight"- 16th Century heavy cavalry, c. 1575. Oil on wood panel, 28"x 24"

A slightly different commission, developed alongside Chris’ friend and collaborator Nigel Carren (https://www.nigelcarren.co.uk), depicting the armour miniature which he's currently forging.

  • ‘Close Combat’

    "Close Combat" - oil on board, 20.5" x 36"

Chris’ first work in a series exploring the troubling history of the Bohemian–Hungarian War of 1468–1478, and the succeeding War of the Hungarian Succession.

Begun on the pretext of returning Hussite Bohemia to Catholicism, the conflict was both protracted and brutal in its ravaging of central Europe.

This piece is an exercise in portraiture; Chris strives to depict the expressiveness and raw aggression of soldiers in combat.

  • ‘The Siege of Hasedō Castle’

'The Siege of Hasedō Castle’, c.1600 - oil on canvas, 46’’ x 32’’.

This commission depicts Date Masamune, 'The One Eyed Dragon', leading his Samurai horsemen in a desperate charge to relieve the castle of Hasedō; the piece seeks to capture the drama and martial ethos of the period.

  • ‘The Battle of Falkirk Muir 1746’

'The Battle of Falkirk Muir 1746' - oil on canvas, 46" x 32

Painted for a fantastic client at 'The Battle of Falkirk Muir Experience', a charitable trust with the aim of establishing a visitor centre to commemorate the Jacobite risings, this commission focussed on colour and composition.

Chris is honoured to have been asked to produce this work for an up-and-coming museum dedicated to such an iconic piece of history.
